Spam
Filtering & Anti-Virus Protection
with the Barracuda
What is the Barracuda?
The Barracuda is a spam filtering system that looks for viruses and unsolicited commercial email (spam). By accessing the system you can approve or reject certain email addresses or entire domains. This is called "whitelisting" and
"blacklisting."
How can I start using the Barracuda?
Go to the website http://ms.i2k.com,
and enter your email address for the Username. Then click on "Create New Password." An email will be sent to you containing a password for the
Barracuda. You can login by returning to the same website
address.
So, how does this work?
Once you've logged into the Barracuda, you've got a number of
options! The first screen displays email messages that were sent to your address within the last five to ten hours.
You also have access to blocked emails that have been sent to your email address. It displays the Date/Time it was received, the Sender, the Subject, and three Actions.
You can choose to Deliver any of these messages to your inbox. You can
Whitelist the sender. Finally, if the email is obviously spam,
Delete the message from your Quarantine Inbox.
Do I need to change any preferences?
Probably not. The default settings are already setup to limit the amount of spam and suspicious email. First of all, click
on the Preferences tab; it is already on the Whitelist/Blacklist Tab. Here you can whitelist or blacklist email addresses or entire domains. For example, you could allow everything from
yahoogroups.com to come through, while blocking everything from
sneakypete.de. Or, you could whitelist myauntmary@hotmail.com while refusing all mail from
myunclejake@hisisp.net. Click the trash can at the end of each entry to remove any listings that you have added. Always click
"Save Changes" when you are finished.
How can I receive the quarantined emails in my inbox?
If you often see emails from friends or family in your quarantine inbox, you do have the option to receive these messages. Click the
"Quarantine Settings" Tab in Preferences. Then select "No" at the top. If "No" is selected, messages that would ordinarily be quarantined will be delivered with "[QUAR]" in the subject line. This Tab also lets you change how often you receive notification messages. Also, you may direct the notification to a different email address. If you do not want to receive these notifications, select "Never" under Quarantine Notification. Always click
"Save Changes" when you are finished.
How can I change my Password?
Click the "Password" Tab in Preferences. Type the password given to you by the Barracuda in Old Password. Then enter
your desired password into New Password. Also enter the password a
second time in Re-type New Password. Click on "Save
Password" when completed. Your changes will take effect
immediately.
I don't want my mail filtered! Can you remove me from the spam filter?
Be warned! On average, over 70-80% of the total email sent in the world is unsolicited. Click the
"Spam Settings" Tab in Preferences. Select "No". If "No" is selected, all messages will be delivered to your inbox without being scanned for spam. Virus scanning will remain in effect.
